Vipps and MobilePay on the same app and platform
Today, Vipps MobilePay rolled out a new version of the MobilePay app to 4.5 million Danish users. This is a significant milestone as the entire company now is on the same platform in Denmark, Finland, and Norway. This paves the way for very, very easy cross-border payments within the Nordic region in a near future.
Since the merger of Vipps and MobilePay in 2022, the company has been working hard to build one app and one technological platform that can be used throughout the Nordic region. The joint platform will give the company increased innovation power to deliver simplifying solutions faster to the entire Nordic region.
"If everything goes according to plan, you will be able to use Vipps MobilePay across Norway, Denmark, and Finland before the summer. Sweden will hopefully follow quite quickly after that," says Rune Garborg, CEO of Vipps MobilePay.
Around midnight (March 12th), 4.5 million Danes were migrated to the new app and platform. A total of 11.5 million users in Norway, Finland and Denmark are now united.
"The payments market is dominated by global tech giants. That's why building a unified Nordic solution is crucial to us. By joining forces, we've become a more powerful Nordic player, developing scalable solutions ready to tackle the fierce competition. Our main goal is to become available in all payment situations across the Nordics,” says Garborg.
In addition to seamless cross boarder payments in the Nordics, the company aims to launch in-store tap-to-pay for iPhone and Android later this year, following a win for fair competition after years of fighting. Now the company awaits a final agreement between the EU Commission and Apple.
