Vipps MobilePay sells its Checkout solution, expands availability in online shops

Vipps MobilePay is selling Vipps MobilePay Checkout, to the Swedish company Kustom. The two companies are also entering a distribution partnership that will increase availability and accelerate Vipps MobilePay’s growth in e-commerce.

Rune Garborg, CEO of Vipps MobilePay.Vipps MobilePay is built on one core belief: payments should be easy. To achieve that, we need to be available wherever people shop. With Kustom as a partner, you will find Vipps and MobilePay in more online shops faster than we could on our own. Rune Garborg, CEO of Vipps MobilePay.

Vipps MobilePay Checkout is a checkout solution for online shops that brings together different payment methods, such as Vipps MobilePay, cards and other payment options, in one place. In recent years, the solution has built a solid customer base and significant transaction volume. Kustom will acquire the checkout offering, while the companies enter into a new strategic distribution partnership. Through the collaboration, Kustom becomes a recommended checkout partner, and Vipps MobilePay gains broader and faster distribution in e-commerce.

Rune Garborg, CEO of Vipps MobilePay.We are proud of what we have built with Vipps MobilePay Checkout and the value we have created. At the same time, we face increasing competition from global technology companies. To compete more effectively, we must sharpen our role as a digital wallet, strengthen distribution through partners and focus fully on the customer experience.Rune Garborg, CEO of Vipps MobilePay.

An important agreement

Through the agreement, Vipps MobilePay sharpens its focus on its role as a digital wallet, while Kustom acquires the checkout offering. The distribution partnership also means the companies will collaborate more closely on product development, and Kustom’s merchants will be offered Vipps’ product portfolio, including Login, Express Checkout and Recurring Payments.

What this means

Checkout is one of many services Vipps MobilePay offers to businesses. Vipps MobilePay will continue to offer its standard online payment solutions, as well as services such as Vipps MobilePay Number and Donations.

Merchants using Vipps MobilePay Checkout who wish to migrate to Kustom will be integrated into Kustom’s solution gradually throughout 2026, starting in the second quarter. Merchants will be contacted directly with practical information, as the transition will depend on their current setup.

Some merchants currently use Kustom’s checkout with Vipps MobilePay as an add-on via an external integration. These merchants will now gain direct access to Vipps MobilePay through Kustom, significantly reducing technical and operational complexity and improving the customer experience.

All customers covered by the agreement will retain the same pricing with Kustom as they had with Vipps.

The agreement is valued at approximately NOK 490 million and includes around 3,000 online shops and a transaction volume of approximately NOK 7 billion.
